You can do this with a regular blender! I've done it with my ordinary blender, and with my food processor. When using a blender, it's better to half the banana lengthwise before freezing, then add a LITTLE bit of water when needed. JUST A BIT!! Just enough to help the blender, and ounce or so at a a time. Also, take the lid off when needed to push the bananas down when needed, you don't want to over-blend or it will be the wrong consistency. Hope this helps.
actually, i have since discovered a way to make this in a food processor, though....this box won't let me link to my video but go to GroceryGeekcom and click on "Recipes" tab under desserts is the recipe/video (p.s. - what's "TIL"?)
I make banana icecream without a vita mix. I blend fresh bananas with a hand blender and then put it into a metal container (has to be metal) and freeze. Depending on how frozen it is you may have to let it set out a little bit when you take it out. But it's good.
So how is this actually banana "ice cream" when there's no milk? Since it's just frozen bananas broken down into a smoothy-type texture wouldn't this really be considered a Banana Sorbet?
The vitamix is the best applicance ever. Think of all the applicances that you have purchased and rarely used in your home. .You will use the vitamix regularly if not daily. It has a great warranty and it is amazing. It is not stupid, it is a investment in your health. I bought one this year and wish I had done it sooner.
Course not, but the quality and quickness of the time in the end is definitely worth it. I can make the smoothest green smothies and love it. The old "good" blender always gave me disgusting chunks. I can make ice cream out of anything frozen. Old blender would've broken.
it's not a blender you buy at bed bath and beyond and throw out in a couple of months. it's a blender for life with a 7 year warranty. In the long run, it saves time, money, and gives health.
cinnamon sounds yummy! they made a recipe like this on the Dr. Oz Show the other day and they added vanilla extract in the blender and then sprinkled nutmeg on it. I tried that and it was tasty, too!
